Why the "The Black Dahlia"?

I recently saw the film The Black Dahlia, and I'm incredibly confused as to why Elizabeth Short was called The Black Dahlia.

Why the "The Black Dahlia"?
According to newspaper reports shortly after the murder, Short received the nickname Black Dahlia at a Long Beach drugstore in the summer of 1946, as a play on the then-current movie The Blue Dahlia, starring Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake. Los Angeles County district attorney investigators' reports state the nickname was invented by newspaper reporters covering the murder. In either case, Short was not generally known as the "Black Dahlia" in life.

The Dahlia nickname originated in the summer of 1946 at Lander's Drugstore at 1st Street and Linden Avenue in Long Beach as a joke among customers referring to the then-current movie "The Blue Dahlia," because of Elizabeth Short's sheer, black clothing and jet-black hair.

Some say she was called the "Black Dahlia" because she always dressed in black.
Reply:Here is what I found on why:

Many people still know about the Black Dahlia (so-called because of Short's pale white skin, red red lips and the black bouffant hairstyle that framed her face).
Reply:Because she kept her hair dyed black and she wore a lot of black. I think she called herself that too, but I'm not sure about that.

BLACK is for her usual colour of clothing.

DAHLIA is for the name of the flower she often wore in her hair.
Reply:I have not seen this movie, but understand it was based on a book. Perhaps like many movies based on books they left out parts in the traslation that made it hard to understand.

When I saw the Da Vinci code I could tell that there were places in the movie where there were things I could not understand because I had not read the book. I asked my boyfriend about this and he said it was true.

I saw the movie "In her shoes" I had read the book first a long time a go. It was different. I know this is no where near as complex a movie as what you are talking about.

Perhaps you should go onto the IMBD web site or whatever that is called and see if you can figure out what the writer and director were trying to portray. I heard them intervied and they were really trying to make this movie true to the book. Perhaps it will help you understand what you saw. If you really care to understand an it is not too disturbing you can try reading the book to get a clearer view.

That is all I can say. I did not see the movie. Those are just my suggestions of the topic of movies and books and the interview I saw about the people involved in the production of this movie.

I hope that helps.
Reply:It was said in the commercial to have been from the makers of Scarface but really I failed to see where the two had anything in common.
