Do I need to dead head my Dahlia's to keep them flowering?

I also noticed that after the flower fades there is a round ball like pod or something...It is confusing because it almost looks like it is a flower about to open...The plants are full of these now and no flowers. Are these seed pods that need to be cut off so the plant will keep flowering?or are these indeed new flower heads about to open???

YES!
Reply:yes, you should cut the seed head off down at the connection to the part of the stem where the leaves are.
Reply:Definately yes.
Reply:Yes.Yes.Yes. All plnts should dedeheaded to encourage more blooms. The plant thinks it is supposed to reproduce itself. You fool it by dedheading.
