The Black Dahlia?

Who else thought that this movie was a disappointment?

The Black Dahlia?
1. Huge budget. Brian DePalma. Time for him to retire.

2. Wrong script writer: James Ellroy wrote pure fiction. Had nothing to do with who Beth really was. It was apparent that Ellroy writes fiction so he doesn't have to work too hard doing any serious research.

3. James Gilmore, who wrote Severed, should have been consulted on the script. He has quoted conversations with people all the way back to Beth's childhood 'til the last day she was seen. The things people said about her were very consistent. I got a very good picture of who she was and how she operated to survive. The lesbian stuff was the presses spin.

4. This could've been a great movie about Beth, but instead it was about something contrived by Ellroy.

5. Hopefully, someone will do this movie justice within our lifetime. It's a worthy subject, and Beth was certainly enigmatic and charasmatic. I hope Gilmore lives long enough for someone with brains, budget %26amp; a good casting director to hire him to write the script.
Reply:I did. I was thinking it would focus more on the murder, but instead it was used as a backdrop. Josh sure does have a nice azz, though. That got me through the rest of it.
Reply:Yes, it was lame.
Reply:I was really disappointed. I wanted to know more about the actual crime, thinking the movie would a True Crime sort. Not so. It was based on the book, which used the murder as a backdrop, not as a focus.

The murder was never solved. Although there have been a lot of rumors going around ever since the movie came out.

I also could have done without some of the graphic violence shown. There were about 4 scenes that could have been cut and wouldn't have changed anything about the movie, except perhaps make it a bit better.

Anyway, hope that helps.

Reply:my family went to go see it and said it was a sleeper, i heard in the reviews that it was horrible, the film industry thinks they can make a crappy movie with a bunch of name brand stars and the American public will ALL go see it, there not getting my money this time! go see Invincible with Mark Wahlburg it was terrific!!!
Reply:i thought it was good. everybody has a different taste in movies. i LOVE LOVE LOVE murder mysteries. but i agree with the other guy that the movie really didnt focus on the murder and just used it as a backdrop. other than that i like it.
