i liked it but it was very confusing.

Yes, the mother killed the young aspiring actress. The reason was the husband was fixated on pornography and hired the young actress, who happened to know the daughter (Hillary Swank). Who in return had a lesbian relationship with the young aspiring actress. The mother killed the young woman cause of socal standing in the community. The cop (Eckhart) was going to black mail the father cause he discovered the house where the movie was filmed and young girl was muredered. Then (Swank) the daughter murdered the cop (Eckhart) cause he was blackmailing her father. That pretty much ties up all the lose ends. Hartnett's and Johanssens' character was primarily filler and kind of tied the story together.
In summary, the mother did it was a knife in the woodshed! CLUE!!!!!
