Dahlia tubers?

I know it's best to divide in spring but can it be done now before storing? Thanks. x

Dahlia tubers?
No, do not do it now as the plant is dormant, it will not be able to repair itself and will start to rot.
Reply:divide the tubers in the spring as then you will see the new shoots and know where to cut. I will also give you some tips on keeping the tubers safe through the winter. the tubers must be kept away from frost.

after lifting the tubers leave about three inches of stem and turn the tuber upside down to dry the tuber of excess moisture.

when dry cut of the thin string like roots to leave the only the good fleshy tubers.

dust the tubers with either yellow or green sulpher abtained from the garden centre or the chemist(flowers of sulpher)

plunge the tubers into dry peat or soil but leave the top three inches of the stem uncovered.

keep frost free under the green house staging and inspect weekly for any sign of rot.

if any rot is found cut it out and apply the sulpher to the wound.
Reply:alot of dahlias are still in flower i no mine are
Reply:You probably already label your tubers, but just in case you don't, it's a good idea in Autumn to tie a plastic label onto the tubers with the colour, height, spread and variety, eg cactus, pompom. This avoids confusion in Spring when the tubers have shrunk, and are about to be divided.

Now when replanting time occurs, there is no problem with planning the planting pattern.
Reply:no if you do it now the cut will start to rot then they all die and rot

do it in the sring when you plant them that way they are starting to grow rather than dormant to let in the rot
Reply:It'll probably be easier in Spring when they are dried out. Doing it now, may bruise them.
